COCAOL

Honduras boasts six distinct coffee-producing regions. Agalta is one of them, stretching across the northeast of the country and encompassing the departments
of Olancho, Yoro, Atlántida, and Colón. It is right in Olancho where the cooperative COCAOL is located. Founded in November 1969 by a group of producers seeking better infrastructure for their farms, improved market access, and financial resources, COCAOL has grown steadily over the years.

Fifty years later, the cooperative works with farms in various towns, including Catacamas, Santa María del Real, Juticalpa, and La Unión. These farms are situated
at altitudes ranging from 1,100 to 1,600 masl and have traditionally cultivated varieties such as Bourbon, Caturra, and Typica. Coffee leaf rust-resistant varieties,
such as Parainema, are also gaining popularity among farmers. Additionally, COCAOL's farmer members actively engage in preserving the ecosystems within the expansive forested areas of the region. All their coffees are shade-grown, and the farms follow environmentally friendly practices. The cooperative also fosters women's participation in coffee farming, sponsors youth education, and provides training in agricultural best practices, health, and safety.

This coffee from COCAOL is certified Organic and HG EP. "HG" stands for "High Grown," specifying that the coffee was grown between 1,000 and 1,200 masl. "EP" stands for "European Preparation," meaning the beans have a screen size of 15+ with a low defect tolerance.
