Obel Hernandez Sr.
Founder & President

Coffee is not something I can keep to myself. It’s something I feel everyone should know more about. Thirty years ago I was just looking for a job. I started with roasting samples for Maxwell House in New York City. Little did I know I would eventually find my life’s purpose.

Soon I was tasting coffee on farms all over the world. In Colombia, I learned when to pick coffee fruit from a tree. In Costa Rica, I climbed mountains to understand how elevation affects a cup of coffee. In Vietnam, I learned the benefits of sunlight and the importance of (clean/fresh) water.

After 30 years of experience and becoming a licensed coffee grader, I knew I could create something that tasted better than what I was drinking every day.

Here I am today with a coffee company of my own, a great team of people around me, and purpose.

Bean2Bean Costa Rican Tarrazu with a splash of milk.

Throughout my life, I’ve always asked myself ‘If everything tasted exactly the same, what would people choose to eat/drink?’.

That’s where my job at Bean2Bean begins, and lets me take our products to another level of personal fulfillment.

I have realized there is so much more than what a product tastes like, it’s about the feeling it gives you, the value you get from it, the people it associates you with, and the personal connection to the culture behind what’s being consumed.

Favorite Drink:
Bean2Bean Cold Brew black in the morning or with a dash of Oat Milk in a the afternoon.

There is something about bringing people together that has always captivated me. My professional experiences, both domestically and internationally, have afforded me the opportunity to work on brands that do just that. Working for several Major League Baseball clubs creating new revenue streams, I obtained transferable skills to bring thousands together from all different demographics. Now as an entrepreneur, I’m using coffee as the social stimulant to bring people together.

I grew up around the smell of burlap bags and roasted coffee. One of my earliest memories is my father spinning me around on giant tasting tables in the coffee laboratory. My immersion into the world of coffee was inevitable, but what keeps me captivated is the people and the culture surrounding the industry.

People drink coffee in so many different ways. Whether it’s with cream & sugar, black, or as an iced cold brewed treat…it creates a social and cultural connection all over the world and I just love being a part of it all.

Bean2Bean ‘76 espresso, iced with a splash of oat milk

Hannah Kneisley


Lead Designer

Originally from Ohio, I grew up in a small town. I dreamed of escaping to explore big cities and make new stories. After finishing my degree in Germany, I headed back to the U.S. to work in Manhattan as an illustrator and designer for Den of Geek Magazine. I couldn’t fathom the constant hustle and bustle of New York City and decided Philadelphia was a better fit. I’m that person who will force you into a “Good Morning!” on the sidewalk.

I believe in the power of our community to maintain a thriving local economy. Everyday I see us working alongside and supporting other local businesses as they do us, and that keeps a smile on my face.

I think of myself as a sort of translator; taking our team’s concepts and turning them into something tangible. I want to make our voice known, and beautiful.

Favorite Drink:
I’ve been drinking a whole milk iced mocha latte made with Bean2bean Italian Market Espresso for 6 years straight!
