The Great Beauty
Dir. Paolo Sorrentino
Not Rated | 2h 21min | Drama | 2014
The Great Beauty revolves around a man, played by the fantastic Toni Servillo, who has embraced the life of being a bachelor; a master of party politics - a socialite and successful author, who at the age of 65, still has the unique ability to always be the life of the party.
Easily one of the sexiest films I’ve ever seen, director Paolo Sorrentino (New Pope, Youth), has such an incredible eye for the “perfect scene”. Shot entirely around Italy, Sorrentino’s elaborate party scenes with strobing flashes of wealth, magically transfers energy from scene to viewer. But, all parties must come to an end - what happens when the music stops, when acquaintances drift away - without recognizing beauty in oneself, what is wealth?
