Hannah Sun
Hannah Read, a young singer and songwriter from Silsbee, Texas, makes music for your worst day yet. Lomelda, Read’s musical moniker, which means ‘echoes of stars’, harnesses raw sadness and melancholic energy into warm, inviting envelopes of sound with just a guitar and her voice.
She brings this therapeutic magic to Hannah Sun, the second song on her latest album, Hannah. Somehow she manages to balance the warmth of nostalgia, against the cold tension of what no longer exists with care and tenderness, effectively creating a space where one might be able to reflect on both.
Lines like “Sinking on a call from your hometown, where they found him…” or “Flying through the blue on your old drive, got some old files, gotta find out, gotta get em out, gotta get em out” delicately reveal intimate details of loss.
She also explores what loss has done to her perception of herself; specifically, who she wants to be, and how, with the Outro: “Hannah, do no harm. Hannah, do no harm...” With the album, and specifically this track, Lomelda invites us to feel our way through the dark, gently, and together.
