Photographer. Videographer. World Traveler. Story Teller. Jake (Argo) Kennedy has a talent for capturing authentic moments that inspire awe and emotion in his audience.
Jake's ability to use the lens as a tool connected with us so deeply, we could not resist the opportunity to work with him. As we share with you our newest production, it seems like the perfect time to introduce you to the man behind the scenes.
“I spent my twenties in and out of the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. I was in Iraq during the surge of ISIS.
In Germany during the pinnacle of the Refugee Crisis. Afghanistan during horrific persecution of local believers.
I’ve been in and out of some pretty dark places, but have found the greatest amount of hope, bravery and inspiration the world has to offer.”
Jake’s experience as a young person was unconventional from the start. Being homeschooled in Montgomery County for his entire life allowed Jake the opportunity to excel in areas he felt most passionate about, giving him an untraditional way of looking at life and work.
Growing up, his father filmed everything on his VHS video camera, locking in childhood moments which gave Jake the gift of memory.
“This definitely had an impact on my desire for film. There is something so beautiful about being able to capture a moment for someone. Literally capture it. Lock it up and own it.”
Jake began traveling with Christian missions organizations at age 16, serving local impoverished communities, and later grew serious about film, he says, out of necessity.
At age 20, he travelled to Nepal to film a group of missionaries amidst the Himalaya Mountains near the Tibetan border, and attributes his story-telling chops to that experience.
“I was the only one with any actual experience in filmmaking. So I volunteered and learned true story telling then and there.”
Traveling around the world with a camera in hand, you see life through a certain lens, we could say. As somewhat of a video journalist, we asked Jake if any moments stand out as most memorable in his travels.
"One of my favorite moments was documenting the story of a Syrian woman that fled her country and sought refuge in a northern Jordanian city. With tears in her eyes she told of her harrowing journey to cross borders in the midst of her city being torn down by enemy insurgencies. Her courage has left a deep mark on me."
