Belgian rock band, Absynthe Minded, originally a solo project singer and producer Bert Ostyn, gained momentum throughout the early 2000s, combining heavy Balkan beats with hints of early jazz and a funky soul-like groove making their latest release, Riddle of the Sphinx their most dynamic yet.

Riddle of the Sphinx carries a trope of letting go what we’ve been clutching onto.  With subtle undertones of substance use and references to escaping and losing grip, this album alludes to the tight grip we've been socialized to accept up unto this point, and challenging us to evaluate the way we are using our time now and days.

Masterpiece opens with a dramatic tribal beat, drawing us internally from the preceding track…the synthesizer pulls us deeper into a dream-like state of getting lost in the moment rather than letting time slip through our fingers.  A mid-track heart beat challenging us to pause Masterpiece encourages the audience to not be prisoner to societal expectations and create a masterpiece of life.

Suddenly I lose my grip.
