Rehab (Winter in Paris)
Brent Faiyaz naturally plays an enigmatic role in both culture and music, and has carried this aura through the length of his R&B career. He takes sound and creates a mystical connection between sensual melodies and real world problems in his freshly released 10-track album, F**k The World.
Intermingled with sultry beats are lines discussing anything from systematic racism to the abuse of drugs, money, and power in society. Rehab (Winter In Paris) shows a dark connection between sex, drugs, and love.
“I been workin’ all day…
I run the streets ‘til it’s dark out, then come home…
I hope that’s okay.”
Faiyaz discusses the darker side of a woman he returns to after a long day of work. He runs to her for sex and love, but keeps himself detached from her addiction--all the while hinting at being one of the only people close to her who knows of her abuse. The soulfulness hidden in this track resonates with anyone experienced in love hindered by drug abuse and toxicity born from similar situations.
