Tiny Bit of Sky
As you start your journey listening to Mumbai/New Zealand blues rock outfit Blackstratblues’ wholesome fifth album When It’s Time, you instantly hear a child count you in for the record’s opener “Tiny Bit of Sky.”
The mellifluous relaxing ditty includes tasty licks and a soaring solo by the group’s talisman, guitarist-producer Warren Mendonsa. The musician’s incomparable fretwork is bolstered by his bandmates’ high-quality contributions. Drummer Jai Row Kavi holds a springy groove that falls in place quite effectively alongside bassist Adi Mistry’s low end while keyboardist Beven Fonseca creates a canvas with his playing for Mendonsa to paint over.
Thematically When It’s Time is about one’s journey through life. In an earlier interview, Mendonsa explained that “Tiny Bit of Sky” is about entering the world with a clean slate. So if you’re looking to roll back the years and feel the innocence of your childhood again, turn the dial to 10, close your eyes and immerse yourself in the experience.
