Do ghosts eternally mourn?
A Ghost Story is a slow burning, sensitive love story about a recently deceased ghost returning home to console his now widowed wife. Upon return, the ghost realizes he cannot communicate and is forced to watch his wife and past life grow farther and farther away.
Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, reunited by director David Lowery after their first film, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints (so good), have such good chemistry it’s nearly impossible to feel the delicate storyline; especially with the perfectly aligned haunting soundtrack.
The unpacking of symbolism in the slow burning A Ghost Story is heavy; a film that demands inner dialogue and viewer attention. What until the end - I still wonder what was written in the note.
