I’ll Believe in Anything

I’ll Believe in Anything, off Wolf Parade’s first studio album Apologies to the Queen Mary, invites us into the autobiographical mind of writer, Spencer Krug. The lyrics describe the emotional experience of losing his mother while living in a “weird isolation," creating a humanistic experience, which seems particularly topical these days.

In an interview, Krug talks about his writing as “Existential horror with a bit of positivity thrown in there,” which is most evident in this song. The song debuted on Snake’s Got a Leg, the first EP from Krug’s solo project, Sunset Breakdown.

The release of the The Wolf Parade production of I’ll Believe in Anything can be considered the baseline for their entire discography. We get a combination of dramatic instrumental dynamics, and driving rhythmic down-beats, with layered Bowie-like vocals, all through a progressive rock tint that creates a unique and captivating sound.
